Well Kept Secret is a music company

and you probably have some questions.

Here’s the ones we get the most:

  • Are you a record label?  Not exactly.  We are a music company ().  Today’s music business is no longer a “one size fits all” affair.  We do lots of things because today’s musicians need lots of things.
  • Can we get an advance?  Probably not.  We take debt very seriously.  Because we primarily work on commission, we are a good option for artists who are financially solvent who want to retain full ownership of their music.  It’s very easy to spend money unnecessarily in this business.  We want to write YOU checks.
  • Do you pitch to digital services?  Yes.  Now, that doesn’t guarantee anything... but we’re going to give you a better shot at getting noticed than the big aggregators do.
  • Are you going to hire PR or radio?  If the situation calls for it, perhaps.  One thing I’ve learned is that the act of spending money often makes people feel like they are making progress.  Take a sober look, though, and often you’ll find that the money you spent didn’t really add up to much.  What if there was a better way?  We’re looking for it.
  • So how do we sell records, then?  That’s the trick, isn’t it?  Success starts locally and grows from there.  Ideally, our goal is to build a plan that reflects the reality of our business in 2024 and beyond.  If you want us to be a social media manager, you’ve probably come to the wrong place.  We want artists to be partners.
  • How often do you pay out?  We’re going to pay out monthly because you pay rent monthly.  And because we don’t spend money like it’s a contest, hopefully there’ll be something there to pay out.
  • Can I work for y’all?  We aren’t looking for employees right now, but we’re always looking for partners.  If anything we’re saying here resonates and you want to work together, please get in touch.
  • Who is the cat that’s bouncing around your homepage?  That’s Irma Thomas, and she’s hungry.
  • Who’s the most important member of a band’s “team”?  The booking agent,  the therapist, and the person that’s not afraid to choose where to eat.
